Central Government Holidays and Observances in India 2025: The Central Government has released the official list of gazetted and restricted holidays for the year 2025, providing clarity on the days when government offices will remain closed nationwide. This annual announcement serves as a reference for public institutions, private organizations, and individuals planning their schedules for the upcoming year.
Gazetted holidays, which are mandatory for all government offices and institutions, represent significant national, cultural, and religious occasions. These are observed uniformly across the country. In contrast, restricted holidays are optional and offer employees the flexibility to choose based on personal preferences, religious beliefs, or cultural significance. The applicability of restricted holidays may vary depending on the institution, organization, or state policies.
The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, which oversees this process, has detailed 17 gazetted holidays and 34 restricted holidays in its circular. The comprehensive list ensures a balance between national observances and individual choices, reflecting India’s diverse cultural fabric.
