Flames engulf the Sidus Rink Hotel in Mussoorie on Sunday morning. (PTI) A massive fire broke out at The Rink hotel in Mussoorie early on Sunday, causing the hotel and two parked cars to be burnt to ashes before fire service personnel could control the blaze. Around three to four workers who were inside the building escaped without injuries, while the owner was also rescued.
According to the police, renovation work was going on at the multi-storeyed hotel because of which there were no guests. The fire brigade, police, and ITBP teams immediately reached the spot but by then the entire hotel was engulfed in flames. Many ITBP water tankers also arrived.
“The fire started around 4 am and soon engulfed the entire hotel. Two cars parked nearby also caught fire and were completely charred. The fire tenders soon reached the spot and stopped the flames from spreading to other structures. No casualty has been reported as three to four people who were inside the hotel escaped in time. Prima facie, it appears that an electrical short circuit caused the fire,” said Shankar Singh Bisht, Station House Officer, Mussoorie police station.
The hotel owner and some labourers were inside when the fire broke out, officials said. The workers managed to escape, while the owner was rescued by the fire brigade and police team after breaking a window. The fire was controlled by around 2 pm.
The hotel was built in 1890 during the British reign. It is suspected that the fire spread quickly as a lot of wood had been used in its interiors.
