Smoke billows after a fire broke out at a hospital, in Baraut (PTI)A fire broke out in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district on Monday morning, triggering panic among the patients and staff. No casualties or injuries were reported.
The fire broke out on the third floor of Astha Multispeciality Hospital in Baraut at about 4.30 am. The fire brigade safely shifted around a dozen patients, including a newborn, to another hospital.
Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Amrendra Pratap Singh said that they got the information about the fire early in the morning. ”Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was doused in an hour,” he said.
Singh also said that the Baraut fire department had issued a showcause notice to the hospital about 15 days ago regarding the construction of a third storey, as the hospital only had a no-objection Certificate (NOC) for two storeys only.
“Our probe revealed that the fire broke out due to the short circuit on the third floor where the hospital waste was being dumped. The fire could have assumed alarming proportions had timely measures not been taken to contain ambers,” said Subdivisional Magistrate (Baraut) Amar Chand Verma.
Meanwhile, Baghpat District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh ordered a probe into the causes of the fire.
“I have directed a probe and also told the departments concerned to fix the responsibility for the mishap,” said the DM.
