Despite the UT Education Department introducing the facility of online registration system for admission to Class XI,this year, most students preferred to go in for the manual process of registration.
Out of a total of nearly 18,000 students who registered this year, only 700 went in for the online process. The remaining students visited centres to purchase forms.
According to senior officials of the department, lack of publicity of the online provision had been the key cause for the poor response. The officials, however, said that absence of any provision to pay the fee online could have been the main cause.
District education officer Ram Kumar said,Since online registration also requires by-hand payment of the cost of the form at centres, the students may have preferred purchasing the forms directly from the centre. The process is not purely online as yet. There are a total of 11,000 seats in Class XI in 37 government senior secondary schools in the city.
The allocation of seats is being done through a centralised online system of counselling and the merit list with details of allocation of seats in all the schools will be available on the website – chdeducation.gov.in – by June 30. The number of preferences of school allowed to students, this year,is 17 -15 model schools and two non-model schools. Seats will be allocated on the basis of preference and merit of the students.
The common merit list will be displayed at the respective schools on June 27. By July 2,students will have to deposit the fees and the classes will begin from July 5. In case students wish to change the school, thereafter, they can submit a form between July 16 and 18 or on August 13 and 14 between 9 am and 1pm.
All other details related to courses and subjects are available with schools, schedule of admission and admission procedure are available in prospectus. In order to assist students, the Department has also started helplines. The numbers are available in the prospectus.
