Four Institute of Chemical Technology students to get highest fellowship

Four PhD students from the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) will be awarded with the prestigious 'Pidilite-Prof M M Sharma Distinguished Doctoral Fellowship'.

Four PhD students from the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) will be awarded with the prestigious ‘Pidilite-Prof M M Sharma Distinguished Doctoral Fellowship’.

With the corpus of Rs three crore of the endowment fellowship,each PhD student will get Rs 30,000 per month as against the existing stipend offered by any of the government departments which amounts to Rs 23,400.

Pidilite Industries signed an Memorandum of Understanding with ICT (deemed university) yesterday at the latter’s annual day at Matunga in Central Mumbai.

Speaking at the function,ICT director and Vice Chancellor Prof G D Yadav said we will cafrefully select four bright students to give this highest endowment stipend and this is a very prestigious endowment for the institute.

The members of Pidilite family especially its chief M B Parikh and his brothers who were also the alumni of ICT said the objective of this MoU is to establish the endowment was to honour Prof Manmohan Sharma,former director of the institute,for his monumental contributions to Chemical Engineering Education,Research,Chemical Industry and Leadership at international level which have brought glory to India.

Since the multi-faceted Sharma had also been a great teacher and motivator and innovator,the other objective of this fellowship is also to generate future generation of teachers,Parikh said.

Yadav said the endowment money will be invested in a nationalised bank and only 70 per cent of the interest accrued will be used for fellowship while 30 per cent of the interest will be ploughed back to the corpus.
