As many as 26 students of class XI science stream from Government Girls Senior Secondary School (GGSSS),Sector 18 have been declared failed in their final examinations.
Following a complaint sent across by parents of these students, last week,a team of subject experts had conducted re-evaluation of the papers of all the 56 students in the class.
One of the subject experts pointed out that none of these 26 students could attain the passing percentage even after being allotted 15 grace marks. Even the class X results of each of these students were re-examined and their scores were found to be below average, say the Department officials.
When contacted,District Education Officer (DEO) Ram Kumar said,Going by the parents requests,we got the answer sheets re-evaluated by our subject experts. No disparities were found in the school-based evaluation.
As per the final results, declared by UT Education Department, the students will have to remain in Class XI in the new academic session. The Department officials also pointed out that the key cause of failure of such a large number of students was a lack of regular attendance.
The Departments decision has left the parents upset, who are blaming the teachers for the shortage in attendance as well as the failure of the students. If in a class of 56,26 students have been declared failed, then it is a question of the teachers accountability, said one of the parents. The Department officials, however, refused to comment over the allegation.
