Chennai Metro Rail Project: The preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for two major Chennai Metro Rail corridors will commence soon. Earlier this month, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) awarded consultancy contracts for the DPR of the Corridor 4 extension from Lighthouse to High Court and the proposed Tambaram–Guindy–Velachery corridor. The DPRs will assess alignment options, ridership potential, multimodal integration, and technical feasibility, forming the basis for informed decision-making and future project implementation. Chennai Metro Rail New Corridor Extension of Corridor 4 - Lighthouse to High Court This proposed extension of approximately 7 km is planned to enhance metro connectivity along Marina beach and also to secretariat. The corridor will improve access for both daily commuters and tourists, supporting urban mobility. Tambaram–Guindy–Velachery Corridor Envisioned This corridor of approximately 21 km aims to integrate the suburbs of Tambaram, Medavakkam, Pallikaranai, Velachery with Guindy Metro station in the corridor 1 of CMRL. This corridor will facilitate multimodal integration at Tambaram, Medavakkam, Velachery and Guindy. Chennai Metro Rail Tenders ".appointed M/s Systra MVA Consulting India Pvt Ltd as the Consultant for both assignments for a value of INR 38,20,000/- and INR 96,19,000/- respectively and the study duration is 120 days," the CMRL said in a statement. Chennai Metro Rail Introduces Train Ticketing in UBER App Earlier this month, the CMRL formed a collaboration with Uber for ticketing service through the Uber App with Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) Network. Now, Uber users in Chennai can plan their metro journeys, purchase QR-based tickets, and access real-time transit information - all within the Uber app. Chennai Metro Ridership 2025 For the first time, the CMRL has registered more than One Crore passengers in July, 2025. According to the official release, a total of 1,03,78,835 passengers have travelled in the Metro trains from July 1 to July 31. On July 4, 2025 the CMRL recorded the highest passenger flow per day with 3,74,948 passengers.
