Bhojpuri singer and BJP leader Pawan Singh on Saturday said that he has no intention of contesting the upcoming Bihar election, describing himself as a “true soldier” of the party. This comes amid speculations of Singh contesting the polls from the Ara seat, after his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Pawan Singh, posting a photo of him with Amit Shah on X, said in a statement, “I, Pawan Singh, want to inform my Bhojpuri community that I did not join the party to contest the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, nor do I intend to contest the assembly elections. I am a true soldier of the party and will remain one.”

The Bhojpuri singer had unsuccessfully contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from the Karakat seat. Singh recently met with Union home minister Amit Shah and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief and Rajya Sabha member Upendra Kushwaha, just as the NDA finalises its seat sharing for the polls.

Not just Pawan Singh, but other notable personalities from Bihar are also rumoured to be contesting the polls. Maithili Thakur, popular folk singer in Bihar, recently expressed her willingness to contest the elections after meeting with senior BJP leaders.

Meanwhile, Bhojpuri singer Ritesh Ranjan Pandey has been fielded as a candidate from the Kargahar seat by Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party.

BJP-led NDA is set to finalise its seat share in the Bihar polls, with LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan scaling down to 35 seats from his earlier demand of 40 seats. It is likely that both NDA and Opposition alliance Mahagathbandhan will announce their first list of candidates for the polls in the coming week.
