Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday accused the Opposition Congress and RJD of shielding illegal immigrants and said infiltration had caused a “demographic crisis” in Seemanchal region (Purnea, Araria, Katihar and Kishanganj districts) of Bihar and other eastern states, making people worried for the “honour of their sisters and daughters”.

Addressing a public meeting in Purnea, the PM said the NDA is committed to driving out each and every infiltrator from the country. Modi also slammed the Congress for “insulting the people of Bihar by comparing them with bidi”. The PM launched multiple development projects worth Rs 40,000 crore and said the projects “spanning railways, airports, electricity and water” will serve as a means to fulfill the aspirations of the Seemanchal region.

Lashing out at Congress and RJD, the PM said: “Congress and RJD are not only a threat to the identity of Bihar. Today, we are facing a demographic crisis because of infiltration. People of Bihar, West Bengal and Assam are concerned about the safety of their sisters and daughters.”

The PM accused the INDIA bloc allies for “playing vote bank politics” and not supporting the government over its “demography mission”, announced on Independence Day.

“Such is vote bank politics that Congress, RJD and their entire ecosystem is busy shielding the foreign infiltrators. They are shamelessly shouting slogans and taking out yatra to defend people who have infiltrated into our country. These people are putting at stake the security and the resources of the nation,” said the PM in an apparent reference to the recent ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ carried out by the Congress and the RJD across 25 districts of Bihar.

“I am telling Congress, RJD and their ilk in clear terms that the NDA is committed to putting a stop to infiltration… The law of the land and not the whims of infiltrators shall prevail in Bharat. It is Modi’s guarantee that stern action would be taken against infiltrators and the country will soon see its result,” said the PM.

The PM also referred to a tweet by the Kerala unit of the Congress, which was deleted following a controversy. “The Congress leaders say ‘bidis’ and Bihar start with B. This is a sheer insult to the state and its people. They will give a befitting reply to the Congress and its alliance partners in the coming days,” he said.

On the setting up of the National Makhana Board, which was notified by the Centre, the PM said, “This is only our government that has given priority to makhana. I had promised to set up National Makhana Board (in the Union Budget). The board will help farmers get a good price for Makhana and make best use of new technology.”
