The crime branch of the Delhi Police has written to the Secretary General, Lok Sabha, seeking permission to inspect the parliament premises in order to move ahead with the investigation in connection with a case filed against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Police have written to recreate the crime scene and also establish the exact sequence of events. On Monday, the two injured MP’s Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were also discharged from hospital. The police have also sought opinion on their MLC and will also examine the footage from the Parliament.

“Now that the MPs have been discharged, we will also record their statements in the coming days,” a police officer said.

On December 17, the BJP and Congress had filed separate complaints at the Parliament Street police station, accusing each other of assault.

Acting on the complaint by the BJP, the Delhi Police registered a case under several sections of BNS.

Soon after the scuffle, the BJP alleged that two of its MPs, Pratap Chandra Sarangi from Odisha and Mukesh Rajput from UP, were injured after being allegedly pushed by Opposition MPs as both sides protested over the B R Ambedkar issue. Sarangi said he was injured when Gandhi pushed a senior BJP MP, leading to his (Sarangi’s) fall.
