The Ahmedabad University (AU) said on Friday that it had not received any official communication from historian, biographer and author Ramachandra Guha on his decision to not join the university.
“The university cannot act or react until we receive a communication from Ramachandra Guha that he is not joining AU. So far, we have not received any communication from his side. Any deliberation and decision resulting from his announcement of not joining the university will take off only after that,” said university registrar B M Shah. AU vice-chancellor Pankaj Chandra could not be contacted for comments.
Guha had announced on Twitter Thursday that he would not be joining the AU due to circumstances beyond his control.
Meanwhile, the NSUI, Delhi, on Friday issued a statement, condemning ABVP’s “intimidation attempts at silencing freedom of thought and expression.”
“This is just the latest in a series of anti-intellectual, anti-free expression and obscurantist actions of ABVP…We stand in solidarity with Ramachandra Guha,” a statement issued by NSUI read.
