ULFA ‘lieutenant’ killed in encounter

A self styled ‘lieutenant’ of the ULFA,Mridul Kalita alias Soumarjyoti was killed in an encounter in Assam.

A self styled ‘lieutenant’ of the ULFA,Mridul Kalita alias Soumarjyoti was killed in an encounter with a joint force of the police and the army in Lower Assam’s Udalguri district on Monday.

He was the commander of ULFA’s 29 battalion,official sources said.

On a tip off about Mridul’s presence at Dalanghat under Kaliagaon police station,the security forces launched an operation leading to a shootout that killed Mridul on the spot,the sources said.

A 7.62 mm pistol,two magazines,12 rounds of ammunition,five mobile phones,92 SIM cards,Rs 2.04 lakh,two grenade pins and some documents were seized from the spot,the sources said.

He militant had joined the ULFA in 1997 and was involved in several subversive activities,they added.
