Tihar authorities invite feedback from prisoners

Prisoners on the verge of completing their term in Tihar jail will get an opportunity to give their feedback on their stay in the high security prison.

Prisoners on the verge of completing their term in Tihar jail will get an opportunity to give their feedback on their stay in the high security prison here.

The prisoners can give their feedback in writing or verbally to the concerned jail authorities regarding improvements needed in the jail,Tihar law officer and spokesperson Sunil Gupta said about the initiative started two months ago.

He said though there was a grievance cell, not many come forward as they fear being harmed during their stay.

“We have now invited feedback from prisoners who are on the verge of completion of their term. This feedback regarding the jail will help us in management of the jail. Attempts will be made by us to implement whatever suggestion comes from the feedback,” Gupta said.

Based on reports from such feedback, the prison has recently decided that the tenure of ‘sevadars’ in its prison will be only for two months.

Sevadars are selected amongst the prisoners who look into the needs of the inmates and see that they abide by the rules and regulations of the prison.

“As we have received complains against them of taking bribes and exploiting prisoners,we have decided that no one person will continue in the post for long. Every prisoner will be involved,” Gutpa said.

“Many will not complain for fear of repercussion when inside the jail. But when a prisoner is out,he or she knows that he will not be harmed. So they will speak their heart out,” Gupta said.

Many of the feedbacks comprise complains against some jail officials or prisoners.
