The third accused in the alleged gangrape of a lecturer,who later attempted suicide,surrendered before the police on Monday and was later arrested.

Mukesh Patel surrendered six days after a complaint was lodged against him and two others,Ketan Thakar and Dinesh Patel,in a police station at Kadi taluka,police said.

Dinesh and Thakar were apprehended on June 22 after the 25-year-old lecturer’s father lodged a complaint against the trio.

Mukesh is a primary school teacher in Narsinhpura village. Dinesh and Thakar are primary teachers at Sachana and Bhankoda villages of the taluka,respectively.

The incident came to light after the lecturer consumed poison at Kalol state transport bus depot on June 21 following which she was admitted to a private hospital.
