A day after a 17-year old inmate of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Cuttack accused her coach Susant Ray of sexual harassment and physical assault, police on Thursday arrested him and presented him to court.
The court has remanded Ray to judicial custody for 14 days.
The young athlete from Khurda, in her FIR lodged with the Mahila police station in Cuttack on Wednesday, alleged that Ray deliberately touched her private parts. The athlete also accussed Ray of thrashing her publicly.

The coach has trained the likes of international athletes like Dutee Chand.
“During preliminary enquiries it was revealed that there are prima facie evidences against the accused and the coach was arrested,” said police station inspector Sakuntala Pati.
Refusing to divulge the details of police investigation as it is a very sensitive matter, the inspector said the investigation is still continuing.
History of harassment
Assistant Commissioner of Police Sitaram Satpathy said police investigations revealed the coach had a habit of harassing other inmates of the hostel.
“We spoke to at least ten girls from the hostel and each one of them repeated what the girl alleged. None of the students dared complain fearing about their future,” said Satpathy.
The girl, who joined the hostel in July this year, earlier trained in SAI’s Durgapur hostel. But she left due to ill health.
