One more arrest in Netai massacre case

A team led by CID special superintendent Bharati Ghosh arrested Chandi Karan from Chanditala in Hooghly district.

A local CPI(M) leader accused in the Netai massacre case of 2011 has been arrested by the CID from Chanditala in Hooghly district, said the police on Friday.

With this, 19 of the 20 accused in the case have been arrested but the last accused CPI(M) leader Fullara Mandal is still absconding.

A team led by CID special superintendent Bharati Ghosh on Thrusday night arrested Chandi Karan, CPI(M)’s Belatikri local committee secretary, from Chanditala in Hooghly district.

He was produced before ACJM (incharge) Suparna Roy at the Jhargram sub divisional court on Friday which remanded him to judicial custody for three days.

He was charged under Sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 307 (attempt to murder) and 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC and provisions of the Arms Act.

The main accused Anuj Pandey, CPI(M)’s former Binpur zonal committee secretary, was arrested from Chandrapura in Jharkhand on May 6 last.

The Netai massacre case happened on January 7, 2011 in which CPI(M) men allegedly fired upon villagers killing nine persons at Netai village in West Midnapore district of West Bengal.
