The trial in the matka king Suresh Bhagat murder case is likely to start in Mumbai on Friday.

The sessions court yesterday directed the metropolitan magistrate to record the statement of Kiran Pujari,an accused-turned-approver in the case.

According to police,Pujari was the ‘legal adviser’ in the syndicate, helping the co-accused,to ensure that they were not caught.

On June 13,2008,Bhagat and six others were killed on Alibaug-Pen Road when a truck rammed into the car in which they were travelling.

Initially,a case of rash driving was registered, but investigations revealed that the accident had been in fact orchestrated by Bhagat’s wife Jaya and son Hitesh, for taking over his multi-crore gambling business.

The accused have been facing trial for murder and criminal conspiracy.
