House robbed,diamonds left behind

For these robbers, diamonds are clearly not worth adding to their booty.

For these robbers, diamonds are clearly not worth adding to their booty. They had done all their homework. They knew that the master of the house owned two Reebok showrooms in Delhi and was fairly well off. They knew that the Noida Sector 36 bungalow was deserted save for three employees of the house who were fast asleep on the second floor. They broke open the front door on Thursday night and stole all the valuables, worth Rs 15 lakh in all,and left before anyone could notice. But curiously, while all the cash and the gold jewellery in the house was missing, diamond jewellery remained exactly where it was.

Police said the robbery took place on Thursday night, when Puran Chand Bhojwan and his family were in Etawah. “Bhojwan, his wife and their two children had left for Etawah on Tuesday, after the death of a close relative. At the time of the crime, their domestic help Karanjit, driver Uma Shankar, and Raju,a worker in one of Bhojwan’s shops, were supposedly sleeping on the second floor. When they woke up in the morning, they found the ground floor of the house ransacked and all the cash missing… Bhojwan and his family have been notified and are on their way back to the city,” a senior police official said. Bhojwan owns two showrooms dealing in sports goods in Delhi, one in Vasant Kunj and another in Model Town.

Police said that there was little clarity on why diamond jewellery was left in place. Officials said,“It is a very strange case. These diamonds were worth the most among all the jewellery that was stolen. The burglars clearly knew that the owners were away from the house as from the state the house is in,it does not seem like they were in a hurry. They took their time, sorted out all the valuables, and then took what they wanted. Perhaps the robbers did not know that the diamond was jewellery, and mistook it for glass. It is also possible they thought the diamond jewellery was fake.”
