Asaram to stay in jail as Rajasthan HC rejects his bail plea

The Rajasthan High Court rejected the bail application,on Tuesday,of the self-styled controversial godman Asaram Bapu,who is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in his ashram.

The HC verdict on Asaram’s bail plea comes a day after his judicial custody was extended till October 11 by a Jodhpur court. The court on Monday had also extended the judicial custody of Asaram’s attendant Shiva till October 11 in the sexual assault case of a minor girl.

72-year-old Asaram was arrested on September 1 for allegedly sexually assaulting a girl.  

Asaram’s arrest followed an FIR filed by the girl alleging she was sexually assaulted by him at his Jodhpur ashram.
