The son of Congress MLA Sena Mahesh Patel has been accused of attempting to run over police constables with his SUV in Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur district, police said on Tuesday.

Pushpraj Patel, whose mother Sena Mahesh Patel is the MLA from Jobat, has been booked for attempted murder. He is currently absconding, police said.

The alleged incident occurred near the Alirajpur bus stand on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, when two constables on night patrol tried to flag down a speeding SUV. CCTV footage shows one of the constables signalling the vehicle to stop as it approached a police barricade. Instead, the SUV sped through the blockade, veering sharply toward the officers.

The policemen were seen scattering to avoid being hit. One constable narrowly escaped by leaping aside, while another was reportedly struck before the vehicle crashed into an electricity pole. The injured constable’s condition remains unclear.

Alirajpur Superintendent of Police Rajesh Vyas told The Indian Express that a team has been formed to apprehend the arrest of the suspect, adding that the department has taken cognisance of the video.

“We have taken cognizance of the video and formed teams to arrest the accused. The vehicle was driven at a high speed and almost hit the policemen,” Vyas told The Indian Express.

He further said: “One constable signalled the driver to stop, but the SUV continued at high speed, veered sharply left, and headed straight for the policemen. One officer was injured. We have formed teams to arrest the accused”.
