Hitting back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Congress termed his allegations against the Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi family “a lie”. Party chief and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said Shah had also insulted B R Ambedkar. “The insult that Home Minister Amit Shah has done to Baba Saheb in the House today has once again proved that - BJP/RSS were against the tricolour - His ancestors opposed the Ashoka Chakra - People of Sangh Parivar wanted to implement Manusmriti instead of the Constitution of India from the very first day," Kharge wrote on X platform. He added, "Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar did not allow this to happen, that is why there is so much hatred towards him. The ministers of Modi government should understand carefully that for crores of people like me, Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar is no less than God.” Earlier, according to videos from news agency ANI, Kharge said: “What Home Minister (Shah) said today is far from the truth. It's a lie. For example, the Ambedkar statue… was not built during their (BJP’s) tenure. It was installed in Mumbai, in Karnataka, and here in front of Parliament. Did they install it? Everything is a lie.” Party MP Jairam Ramesh said, “The Home Minister gave a 90-minute sermon…He did not mention why the first amendment was brought (under Nehru govt). It was brought because the laws that were brought to remove zamindari were quashed…The other reason was to save reservations. This was because the Supreme Court had quashed reservations provided in Madras.”
