Chhattisgarh: In fresh encounter with Maoists, CRPF jawan killed, another injured

In an encounter with Maoists in the Salewara jungles of Dhamtari district in Chhattisgarh on Friday morning, at least one Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed and another injured. The encounter took place a day after four jawans were killed in an encounter in Kanker district.

The encounter broke out during an anti-naxal operation in the district by a joint team of CRPF’s 211 battalion and District Force (DF), news agency PTI reported. At least 50 CRPF personnel and 10 from the DF were involved in the operation, which began on April 3.

PTI also reported that the Maoists fled after forces retaliated. “Head Constable Harish Chand was killed in the incident while Sudhir Kumar got injured,” an official was quoted as saying by the agency.

On Thursday encounter, P Sundar Raj, DIG, Anti Naxal Operations said, “The area domination team had left in the morning from the BSF camp in Mohla. There was an encounter in the jungles around Mohla, in which four BSF jawans were killed, and two were injured. Those that were injured have been rushed to Raipur for treatment.”

The deceased were identified as BSF’s Assistant Sub-Inspector Bipul Borah from Assam, constable Silam Ramkrishna from Andhra Pradesh, constable Ishrar Khan from Jharkhand, and Tumeshwar from Dongargaon in Chhattisgarh, reported PTI.
