Centre appoints IAS officer Ashwani Kumar as MCD commissioner

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday appointed IAS officer Ashwani Kumar as the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

A 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer, Kumar is currently serving as Delhi Divisional Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Home).

He succeeds Gyanesh Bharti, a 1998-batch Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre IAS officer, who was transferred to the post of Additional Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, in March before the recent Lok Sabha elections.

“I am directed to say that with approval from the competent authority, it is decided to appoint Ashwini Kumar, IAS (AGMUT) 1992 as Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, with immediate effect,” read an order from the Home Ministry to the Raj Niwas.
