Canadian PM’s aircraft faces technical issue at Delhi airport

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s departure has been delayed after his aircraft faced some technical glitches on Sunday evening at Air Force Station, Palam. The chief of protocol of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has been informed by the High Commission of Canada later in the evening that the departure of the PM and his delegation has been delayed.

On September 8, Canadian PM Trudeau arrived to attend the G20 Summit and was received by the MoS (Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship) Rajeev Chandrasekhar. He was staying at The Lalit Hotel in Barakhamba Road.

According to the schedule, the flight was scheduled to take off at 8 pm from AFS Palam, but it got delayed after the RCAF special flight faced some technical issues.

“Trudeau’s carcade was ready, but they were informed by the Canadian Armed Forces that their plane was having some technical issues. Their security personnel were coordinating with the concerned department and they were informed that these technical issues are not fixable overnight. Later, it was later decided to postpone the departure until alternate arrangements are made. Information was shared with the MEA and all the arrangements extended. One of the floors was booked for Trudeau and his delegation,” an official said.

The Indian Express has learnt that a letter was sent by the High Commission of Canada, informing that “due to unforeseen technical reasons”, the final departure of the PM Trudeau and the delegation has been delayed and they will not leave tonight. “They have made a request to inform about this development to all concerned authorities… They have also informed that they would convey the confirmed departure flight details once it will be finalised to seek further flight landing clearance and other approvals from them,” an official said.

An official said they have asked the MEA to provide urgent assistance in getting access for all the rented vehicles, aircrew security officers at AFS Palam to avoid any inconvenience to the Aircrew and delegation members.
