Two days after the West Bengal Special Task Force arrested Md Habibullah and five other men for suspected links to the Bangladesh-based Islamist terrorist group Shahadat-e al Hiqma, another terror suspect has been arrested, said police.

The accused, Harej Shekh (27), of Mayapur, Nabadwip in Nadia district, was arrested on Tuesday morning from the Howrah Station area.

The STF had on Saturday arrested and seized electronic devices from Md Habibullah, a student of Mankar College, who was allegedly heading the outfit. He was presented in the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Court of Kanksa Police Station and remanded to 14-day police custody.

Habibullah and his associates would allegedly communicate through cryptic messaging platforms like ‘BiP’.

The Shahadat-e al Hikma was formed by members of the Ansar al-Islam (Bangladesh), also called Ansarullah Bangla Team, after it was banned in the neighbouring country and its leaders were arrested, police sources said. The NIA has registered three cases against the Ansar al-Islam—one each in Mizoram, Bengaluru and Bengal.
