WITH THE chief secretaries of three UTs — Chandigarh, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir — set to retire between October and November, the MHA, according to sources, is considering an overhaul at senior bureaucratic level in the coming days.
According to sources, around six senior IAS officers and as many IPS officers from the AGMUT cadre (batches 1989-1995) across the country are expected to be part of the reshuffle.
Extensions of tenure, officials said, are likely in at least one case each in both the administrative and police services.
The overhaul, likely the last of its kind before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, is also expected to impact Goa and Arunachal Pradesh, besides the three UTs, sources said.
Sources said Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Dharmendra from 1989 batch, Goa Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel and New Delhi Municipal Council chairperson Amit Yadav, both from 1991 batch, are among the frontrunners for posting in Delhi and Chandigarh. The tenure of Goel and Yadav, both AGMUT-cadre officers, is also ending, according to the sources.
Prashant Goyal of 1993 batch, posted in J&K, and Sharat Chauhan of 1994 batch, posted in Arunachal, are also among the frontrunners for Chandigarh posting. While Chandigarh’s Adviser to the Administrator, Dharampal, a 1988-batch IAS officer, is retiring this month, Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, of the same batch and cadre, and J&K’s Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta are scheduled to retire by November-end. Officials said Mehta’s replacement may be chosen from among Atal Dulloo and Raj Kumar Goyal, AGMUT-cadre IAS officers of 1989 and 1990 batches, respectively. J&K DGP Dilbagh Singh, a 1987-batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, will retire by this month-end. In November, DG, CRPF, Sujoy Lal Thaosen, a 1988-batch MP cadre IPS officer, is also set to retire.
