Polling in the area is set to take place on September 25, and campaigning for the election is ongoing in all areas of the district.Three BSF jawans were killed and at least 25 sustained injuries after a bus ferrying them for polling duty skid off the road and fell into a gorge in Jammu & Kashmir’s Budgam district, officials said.
Budgam will vote in the second phase of the Assembly elections on September 25.
Police said the bus was carrying 36 BSF troopers for deployment at polling booths. Officials told The Indian Express that the mishap occurred in Khan Sahib area of the district in central Kashmir. At least 25 injured people were taken to a hospital, they said.
Kashmir IG V K Birdi visited the injured troopers at the hospital in Srinagar.
DGP R R Swain, meanwhile, expressed condolences over the loss of life and the injuries.
“We mourn the loss of these dedicated soldiers who tirelessly served the nation. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and assured all necessary support and assistance by the J&K Police,” the DGP said.
