(Reuters) The BRICS foreign ministers Friday issued a strong condemnation of terrorism in all forms, and vowed to combat all means of its support, including via financial networks and provision of refuge.
BRICS is “committed to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including the cross-border movement of terrorists, and terrorism financing networks and safe havens,” the ministers said in a joint statement issued after a recently held meeting in South Africa’s capital city.
The BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Relations meeting was held in Cape Town on June 1. It is expected to finalise the agenda for the 15th BRICS summit scheduled to be held in August, in South Africa, which is in the chair this year.
The statement also expressed strong condemnation of terrorism: “They (the ministers) recognised the threat emanating from terrorism, extremism conducive to terrorism and radicalisation,” and that terrorism should not be associated with “any religion, nationality, civilisation or ethnic group”.
