The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed senior IPS officer Satish Golcha as the new Delhi Police Commissioner. The 1992-batch IPS officer has replaced SBK Singh who took up additional charge as Commissioner on July 31 after his predecessor Sanjay Arora’s retirement. The moves comes a day after Delhi CM Rekha Gupta was attacked in her residence.

Mumbai Rains Update

Mumbai got a break from rains on Thursday morning after the city was practically brought to its knees in the last three days owing to incessant downpour. Schools and colleges returned to normal functioning, too, as the IMD had sounded a ‘yellow alert’ for the city, forecasting moderate rainfall.

A few commuters complained about some delays in suburban services on Central Railway and Western Railway. On Tuesday evening, 782 passengers were rescued after two overcrowded Monorail trains on elevated tracks got stuck between stations in Mumbai on a day of torrential rains.

Rapido fined for misleading ads

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), the country’s top consumer watchdog, has slapped a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on ride-hailing service Rapido for misleading and unfair trade practices.

CCPA, headed by Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare, had taken suo motu cognisance of Rapido’s two ad campaigns — ‘Guaranteed Auto’ and ‘AUTO IN 5 MIN OR GET ₹ 50’, and found they were “misleading” and asked the ride-hailing service to discontinue them immediately.

Delhi CM gets enhanced security

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has taken over the security charge of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta hours after an attack on her and now it is providing ‘Z’ category security cover to her.

Gupta was holding a ‘Jan Sunwai’ (public meeting) at her residence in North Delhi’s Civil Lines Wednesday when she was allegedly attacked by a man from Gujarat, who posed as a complainant with a grievance, while talking to her. The accused, Rajesh Bhai Kimji Bhai Sakariya, 41, from Rajkot, was arrested and is currently in five-day police custody.
