A 28-year-old tribal man who was recently recruited as Bastar Fighter has been abducted by Maoists in Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region. While the abduction took place on September 29, the incident has been confirmed by the Bijapur police only after Maoists in their standard style claimed the abduction by releasing a press note anonymously on Wednesday.

Bastar Fighters is a special force created by Chhattisgarh Police by selecting 2,000 odd villagers from over 50,000 villagers coming from remote villages in Bastar region. They were later given specialised training to fight against Maoists.

The Jawan identified as Shankar Kudiyam, 28, was abducted from Ittampar-Uspari village where he had gone to visit an acquaintance. The Maoists stated its the work of their People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army who are interrogating the jawan and “their decision will depend of next stand of police administration”.
