Congress leader Jairam Ramesh Monday took a swipe at Ghulam Nabi Azad over his recent statements on the Congress leadership and said the former party veteran "falls to new depths to demonstrate his loyalty" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Azad had quit the Congress party last year, stating that the situation in the party has reached a point of “no return”. "With every passing day, Ghulam Nabi Azad falls to new depths to demonstrate his true character and his loyalty to Mr. Modi. His contemptible statements on the Congress leadership reflect his desperation to remain relevant. I can only say that he is PATHETIC (sic)," Congress general secretary Ramesh tweeted. "I can give 10 examples of where he (Rahul) would go, even outside the country, to meet people who are undesirable businessmen," says @ghulamnazad This explains @RahulGandhi's rants against Indian businesses. He loves only foreign businessmen. I can give you 10 examples of where he would go even outside the country, to meet people who are undesirable businessmen." Coinciding with the launch of his autobiography 'Azaad' last week, Azad has been giving a series of interviews, slamming the Congress leadership and the party. In his book, the former Congress leader writes about knowing Modi since long and sharing warm ties with him. “I found Modi to be a great listener. Not even once did he rebut my arguments or speak against me, inside or outside Parliament. He would always remain calm, though he would taunt me by making some political references. But he never attacked me personally. This may also have been because, unlike other leaders, I would not call the PM or other members of the ruling party names or abuse them.” On Saturday, Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at some leaders who have quit the Congress in recent years with some joining the BJP. “They hide the truth, that’s why they mislead everyday! The question remains the same – who has ₹20,000 crore benami money in Adani’s companies? (sic)” the Congress leader had tweeted while linking Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with Ghulam Nabi Azad, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiran Reddy, and Anil Antony with the conglomerate.
