(Representational image/File)The Army has ordered an inquiry into an alleged incident of assault by a serving Brigadier on some of the soldiers attached to his official residence on March 1.
“The said incident has come to light in a Sector HQ (headquarters) in the general area of Poonch, for which an inquiry has been ordered. Army remains committed to a fair, transparent and early investigation. Appropriate action will be taken through a swift and just process. The overall situation remains normal and under control. The formation continues to perform its operational task as hithertofore,” the Army public relations officer, Jammu, said in a statement.
Highly placed sources said the soldiers who were allegedly beaten up were drawn from different Rashtriya Rifles (RR) units deployed in the area and were assigned for the upkeep of the Brigade Commander’s official residence.
The Brigadier, when contacted on the phone, only said, “Wrong information,” before disconnecting the call.

Sources said the probe will also focus on allegations that other staff members who were beaten up ran away, following which a havildar was asked to thrash them, but he got beaten up instead.
Sources said a complaint was filed with the Army’s internal grievance portal, and a preliminary inquiry began the next day, with a senior Army officer visiting the area. A one-man inquiry was conducted by Dy GOC Romeo Force on March 3, sources said.
