Three persons sustained injuries and around five vehicles were damaged as members of the Bajrang Dal clashed with municipal corporation workers during an anti-encroachment operation in Indore on Wednesday. Officials said that activists of the outfit vandalised municipal corporation vehicles around 6.30 am in Satyadev Nagar and Datt Nagar.

Deputy Commissioner of Indore Municipal Corporation, Lata Agrawal, said that the operation involved removing encroachment and transporting stray cattle in municipal vehicles. “On the basis of the Commissioner’s orders, we had initiated an enquiry in the morning. There are some shelters which were built without permission. The shelters were removed because there were complaints against them,” she said.

However, Bajrang Dal members arrived at the scene and started protesting. The protest turned into a physical confrontation after municipal workers tried to explain the situation to the members of the outfit. Both parties are yet to file an official FIR.

VHP’s Pappu Gochale accused the municipal workers of animal cruelty, and alleged that they used force to load cattle onto vehicles. “They were transporting 15-20 animals in vehicles meant for a maximum of seven,” he claimed. Defending Bajrang Dal, Gochale said, “When they misbehaved, we responded in kind.”

“The Indore gaushala is in a very good condition and we had kept the cows there…” Deputy Commissioner Agrawal said.

MG Road police station officer Vijay Singh Sisodia, meanhwile, confirmed that 13 animals were sent to the Hatod Gaushala in three vehicles under police protection. The municipal team was accompanied by a 10-member police force for security.

Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma later met the injured workers at Shelby Hospital and assured them support. He also directed doctors to ensure proper treatment and addressed protesting municipal employees who demanded action against Bajrang Dal members for obstructing official duties and assaulting staff. They warned of a strike, if no action was taken.
