‘Amit Shah doesn’t know history, he keeps rewriting it’, says Rahul Gandhi on Home Minister’s Nehru jibe

Hailing the Supreme Court’s verdict which upheld the abrogation of Article 370, the home minister on Monday blamed Nehru for accepting the ceasefire brokered by the UN without taking the whole of the erstwhile princely state from Pakistani invaders in 1948.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday gave a sharp retort to Home Minister Amit Shah for his comments in the Rajya Sabha targetting Jawaharlal Nehru on the Kashmir issue and said that the BJP leader does not know history and “keeps rewriting” it.

“Pandit Nehru dedicated his life to this country. He was in jail for years, Amit Shah ji does not know history. I don’t expect that he would know history as he keeps rewriting history,” said Gandhi.

“This is all about distraction, basic issue is of caste census and participation, in whose hands is the money of the country going. They (BJP) don’t want to discuss this issue, they are afraid of it and run away from it,” Gandhi told reporters outside Parliament.

Hailing the Supreme Court’s verdict which upheld the abrogation of Article 370, the home minister on Monday blamed Nehru for accepting the ceasefire brokered by the UN without taking the whole of the erstwhile princely state from Pakistani invaders in 1948.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Shah said that when it came to J&K, even Nehru accepted his mistake. He quoted from documents from the Prime Minister’s Museum and Society at Teen Murti and said that Nehru in his own words had said that there was no hope of a satisfactory outcome at the UN and though he thought that the ceasefire was a good decision at the time, it should have been taken later.

Earlier, while addressing the Lok Sabha on December 6,  Shah had alleged that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru made “two blunders” due to which Kashmir residents suffered for years, following which the Opposition members walked out of the House, in protest.

He also blamed the former PM for losing Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to the neighbouring nation. “Had Jawaharlal Nehru taken right steps, PoK would have been part of India now. It was a historic blunder,” he said.
