A dinner at a minister’s residence involving Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah that set off a buzz about change of guard to remarks of various Congress leaders that have sparked controversy, Congress legislators and ministers were asked during a meeting on Monday to refrain from airing their views in public and address schism in the party forum.

The development comes in the backdrop of a meeting on January 2, where Siddaramaiah was present with Dalit and SC, ST and OBC Cabinet colleagues seen to be loyal to him at the residence of Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi, that stirred the pot.

What fueled theories that the meeting was part of efforts to counter the dominance of Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, also the chief challenger to the CM’s post, was its timing. The KPCC chief was in Turkey on a family holiday during the gathering at Jarkiholi’s house.

On Monday, during the Congress Legislature Party meeting in Bengaluru, AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala is learnt to have advised party leaders to abstain from discussing party’s internal matters in the media. Congress communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh also attended the meeting.
