The AIKS said that the “much-hyped project for digitalisation of Indian agriculture is completely in tune with the demands of international finance capital.”
Days after the Union Cabinet approved the Digital Agriculture Mission, the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), the farmer wing of CPI(M) criticised the government Thursday and alleged that the “digitalisation” of the farm sector is aimed at “corporatisation of agriculture” and it is a “threat” peasantry’s livelihood.
In a statement, the AIKS said: “The overwhelming chunks of the Indian peasantry are small, marginal, landless and tenant farmers. Once incorporated into the big business-led digitalisation, the predatory corporations can dominate the entire agricultural production and ruin the livelihood of the peasantry.”
“Digitalisation is aimed at corporatisation of agriculture – a threat to peasantry’s livelihood,” it said.
“The agrarian policies of the Modi regime are heavily influenced by the worst forms of the free market ideologies. The pro-corporate and anti-farmer policies of the Modi regime were evident in the controversial land acquisition ordinance and the draconian farm laws,” the AIKS said.
The AIKS said that the “much-hyped project for digitalisation of Indian agriculture is completely in tune with the demands of international finance capital.”
“This would translate as further shrinking of public investment and increasing clout of digital and agricultural corporations in shaping the research agenda of Indian agriculture,” it said.
