Flagging exploitative labour practices in the delivery app sector, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha shared a post on social media showing a Blinkit delivery agent earning only Rs 763 for 15 hours of duty. “This is not a ‘gig economy success story’. This is systemic exploitation hidden behind apps & algorithms,” Chadha wrote on X, adding that he raised the issue in the Parliament.

The tweet included a screenshot with details on the delivery agent’s earnings from 28 deliveries over 14 hours and 39 minutes. The agent earned Rs 690.57 from order earning and Rs 72 in incentives.

“Low pay, crushing targets, no job security, no dignity for gig workers. This Blinkit case only confirms what millions live every day,” Chadha said.

The AAP leader said that India cannot build a digital economy “on the backs of underpaid, overworked human beings.” “Fair wages, humane hours and social security for gig workers are non-negotiable,” he added.

One X user, Gourav Thakur chimed in: “If you remove petrol charges, Food/drink cost, bike maintainence cost then effectively his earning wont exceed 200₹. In long term his health will suffer. Expolitation of workers at its peak. Labour laws are only on papers and that too it favours rich people only.”

“Make it law: like in the USA and Canada, you must be paid at least minimum wage per day. How does this make sense?” another user said.
