2 held for murdering UP constable during anti-illegal sand mining drive

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday arrested two people accused of murdering a police constable during an anti-illegal sand mining drive in Farrukhabad. A search is on to nab the third accused in the crime.

The accused allegedly ran a tractor-trolley over a police constable when he tried to stop the vehicle being used for illegal mining in the Sitwanpur Pithu area of Farrukhabad on Saturday night. The victim, Rohit Kumar, died during treatment at the hospital on Sunday. Kumar was posted at the Nawabganj police station.

The arrested accused have been identified as Pradeep Yadav and Bhupendra Yadav. The two were nabbed on Sunday after a hot pursuit and both received bullet injuries to their legs. They have been admitted to a hospital for treatment and their condition is stated to be stable.

According to the police, they received a tip-off about illegal mining in the Sitwanpur Pithu area on Saturday night. Thereafter, a police team led by a sub-inspector was quickly dispatched to the spot.
