The Great Indian Kapil show wraps up ‘temporarily’, renewed for second season: Kiku Sharda reveals 8 episodes to go

Kiku Sharda has said that Kapil Sharma and his team shot the season finale on May 1. However, he added that the short 13-episode season was in keeping with the format that is in sync with the show's new home, Netflix.

Archaha Puran Singh recently posted an Instagram story suggesting that Kapil Sharma and his The Great Indian Kapil Show team wrapped the Netflix show recently, which shocked the show’s fanbase and the audience as it landed on the platform only on March 30 and only five episodes have come out till now. However, now the show’s member, comedian Kiku Sharda has revealed that the show has in fact been renewed for its second season and that it has only has been wrapped up temporarily.

Kiku revealed that the team shot the last episode of the Netflix original  — The Great Indian Kapil Show — on May 1. Till now five episodes of the comedy show are streaming on Netflix, last being Kapil hosting with Aamir Khan. Kiku shared that eight more episodes are lined up and will stream in the coming weeks, with the next one featuring Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. Following which, Kapil will take a small break and return with the second season of his show.

“We have done 13 episodes and the second season will come out soon. We have just wrapped up the first season. It was always meant to be like this. We have already planned the next season and it will come out soon. There won’t be a very huge gap,” Kiku told News18.

He added that the makers are experimenting with the new format for the OTT audience. He said, “On television, it used to be longer but it is about different formats. This is also interesting. There will be a short gap now and the second season will be back soon. It sounds like a wrap because we make it look like it. But it is temporary. We will be functioning soon again.”

The Great Indian Kapil Show dropped on Netflix on March 30 with Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni as the first guests on the show which saw Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover reuniting after their infamous rift. Kapil hosted cricketers Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer in the second episode and Imtiaz Ali, Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh promoted their film Amar Singh Chamkila on the show’s third episode. Vicky Kaushal and his brother Sunny appeared on the fourth episode of Kapil’s show and Aamir Khan appeared on the last, the fifth episode, of the show.
