Sahil Khattar started his acting career with the Kabir Khan directorial 83 in which he played the role of former cricketer Syed Kirmani. A few projects later, he is now making his OTT debut with Bajao, which revolves around a pop star’s struggle with depression and how he is brought back into the music scene. The trailer makes one wonder if this story has been inspired by musician Yo Yo Honey Singh, who earlier opened up about his mental health issues. Sahil, who plays a Delhi-based character who brings the pop star back in the game, says that the story is inspired by recent events.

The role of the pop star in the web series is ironically played by real-life rapper Raftaar. In an interview with indianexpress.com, when asked about the similarities of the pop star with Honey Singh, Sahil says, “That is what you are saying, we are not saying. I can’t say much about it but we are very glad to be a part of this show and this is very current. That’s why I said that we have taken inspiration from all that is happening in the world. We packaged it in a way where the audience would really love it.”

Sahil Khattar says he always wanted to make his OTT debut with a project which has a comedic tone.

“I always thought that whenever I debut it will be like a Fukrey or Pyaar Ka Punchnama. I had that feeling that I have to do a genre like this because my strong suit is comedy. There are no second thoughts about it because I have made a career out of it. As soon as I was asked if I want to do it, I was like, ‘Absolutely.’”

Hailing from Chandigarh, Sahil Khattar eventually moved to Mumbai and started his journey as an actor. However, Sahil shares that he has, so far, not played a Hindi or Punjabi-speaking character.

“The most interesting thing that I found was that I have done 83 in which I was a Hyderabadi cricketer. Then I played a serial killer who was Maharashtrian in the film called 200 Halla Ho. After that, I was like okay I get to play a Haryanvi guy. That was so cool!” Sahil says.

He adds, “I am a Punjabi, so I never got a normal Hindi-speaking or Punjabi-speaking role. So, I was very happy when the Haryanvi character came, because how many people get the chance to show this kind of variety.”
