Solo Leveling Season 3’s fate hangs in the balance after producer Atsushi Kaneko dropped a cryptic hint about its survival depending on fan support. But while you wait for news, keep an eye on what’s already creating buzz. A new manhwa adaptation is leading Crunchyroll’s Spring 2025 lineup. If the hype is to be believed, The Beginning After the End has already overtaken Solo Leveling as the most-read webcomic on Kakao Entertainment’s North American platform, Tapas, according to Screen Rant. The anime adaptation officially kicked off on April 2.

Adapted from a popular high-fantasy web novel and manhwa, written by TurtleMe and illustrated by Fuyuki23, The Beginning After the End sticks to the classic isekai formula but with enough twists to make it stand out. TBATE has been dubbed Solo Leveling’s spiritual successor, and the similarities between the two are hard to ignore, including the main characters, Sung Jinwoo and Arthur Leywin.

TBATE creator, Brandon Lee, in an interview with IGN, revealed that the adaptation remains true to its original story. However, fans might spot some differences as director Keitaro Motonaga brings his creativity to the table.“In the end, anime is a very different medium compared to comics and novels. The director, coming in as the expert in this medium, in anime… I’ve learned a lot. The same story might be told in a little bit of a different way,” Lee said. According to SR, Kang Jung Goo, the Global Story Business Division’s Head at Kakao, revealed in an interview that Tapas’ top three webtoons based on transaction amounts are The Beginning After the End, followed by Solo Leveling and A Business Proposal. TBATE has racked up over 36 million views, while Solo Leveling sits at 23 million. Interestingly, the new release isn’t actually a Korean manhwa. It’s an original English-language webcomic written by a Korean-American author.  However, because it follows the art style, pacing, and tropes of manhwa, many readers classify it as one.
