SS Rajamouli is one of the few filmmakers who have brought Telugu cinema to a global stage, with his film RRR even bagging two Oscars in 2023for its song “Naatu Naatu”. Now, fans will get to delve into the director’s mindset and witness his filmmaking process through the Netflix documentary Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli. The makers unveiled the trailer of the documentary on Monday.
The trailer provides behind-the-scenes action of his films RRR and Baahubali and offers an in-depth look into his filmmaking process. It also features his films’ stars Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Prabhas sharing their experiences of working with the director. Talking about Rajamouli’s dedication to his craft, Jr NTR says, “You start feeling that he has no empathy at all. He is a madman. There is no point arguing with him. Just deliver what he wants and get out of there.” Similarly, Ram Charan talks about how he has seen Rajamouli break mics on set. He adds, “Sometimes I am shocked. I see myself as a third person when I see his films.” Rajamouli’s wife, Rama Rajamouli, even called him a “demon of work.” The trailer ends with Rajamouli explaining how he is a slave to his story.
The documentary Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli is bankrolled by Applause Entertainment and Film Companion Studios. It is directed by Raghav Khanna and features an interview with the director himself as well as his close collaborators and film personalities such as James Cameron, Joe Russo, Karan Johar, Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Jr NTR, and Ram Charan. The documentary will release on August 2.
Meanwhile, Rajamouli was recently seen playing a cameo in Nag Ashwin’s epic Kalki 2898 AD, which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Prabhas in lead roles.
