A year after it released the Indian version of anthology series Modern Love in Hindi and Telugu, Amazon Prime Video has finally dropped the trailer of the much-anticipated Chennai chapter of the franchise. According to the streaming giant, Modern Love Chennai brings together six renowned filmmakers — Bharathiraja, Balaji Sakthivel, Thiagarajan Kumararaja, Rajumurugan, Krishnakumar Ramakumar, and Akshay Sundher. The trailer of the anthology series that Prime Video released today assures a heart-warming experience just like its Mumbai and Hyderabad chapters. Produced under the banner of Tyler Durden And Kino Fist, Modern Love Chennai stars Ritu Varma, Ramya Nambessan, Ashok Selvan, Wamiqa, Sanjula Sarathi, Chu Khoy Sheng, Srikrishna Dayal, T J Bhanu, Sri Gouri Priya, Vasudevan Murali, Vasundhara, Samyuktha Vishwanathan, Pawan Alex, Aniiruth Kanakarajan, Kishor, Vijayalakshmi, and PB among others. The series will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video from May 18, 2023, onwards and will be available in over 240 countries and territories. Based on a weekly column of the same name published by The New York Times, Modern Love Chennai will have six episodes, each narrating a different story. While the first part of the 176-second trailer shows many instances in the series that evoke laughter, the promo turns the spotlight on the series' romantic aspects very slowly but gives the impression that it has enough heartening stories to narrate. While maestro Ilaiyaraaja, his son Yuvan Shankar Raja, GV Prakash Kumar, and Sean Roldan have composed the songs for the series, the lyrics for the tracks have been penned by Yugabharathi and Bakkiyam Sankar apart from Ilaiyaraaja himself. ready to stumble upon love in the heart of Chennai? 🏠💙#ModernLoveOnPrime, May 18@tylerdurdenand1 #BharathiRaja @ilaiyaraaja #BalajiSakthivel @Dir_Rajumurugan @Krishnakum25249 @AkshaySundher #Thiagarajankumararaja @gvprakash @RSeanRoldan @ashokselvan @riturv pic.twitter.com/OptKjTFdJY — prime video IN (@PrimeVideoIN) May 8, 2023 The six episodes in the anthology are titled: Lalagunda Bommaigal (Dir. "Where, on whom and for what do we fall in love," said Bharathiraja about his segment Paravai Kootil Vaazhum Maangal while keeping a bit of mystery in it. Director Rajumurugan, meanwhile, said, “Love is one, each one is one. One in everything. Everything in one. I am looking forward to the audience watching our individual interpretations of love, in this heart-warming series.” “Being a man, to a certain extent I understand our perspective on love and romantic relationships. Here, I was given the challenge to showcase love and romance from a woman's point of view, which required me to present a new and opposite perspective on the same subject. I had to research the shift in perspective which helped me not just with my film-making but also to understand the women in my real-life better,” director Krishnakumar Ramakumar said referring to his segment Kaadhal Enbadhu Kannula Heart Irukkura Emoji. On the other hand, director Akshay Sundher of Margazhi said, “It’s a great feeling to be a part of the Modern Love Chennai family alongside veteran filmmakers. Working with Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja was a dream come true and it was a life-changing experience. Love is something that cannot be contained in a boundary of just a few words, but if I had to explain it from the context of Margazhi, love is acceptance - acceptance of what is, what has been, what can or will be and what may never be.”
