Kim Sae Ron’s family held a press conference on March 27, as represented by their attorney, Bu Ji Seok. The family released alleged private messages sent by Kim Soo Hyun to Kim Sae Ron during the time they claim the two were dating (when the late Bloodhounds star was still a minor.) Kim Soo Hyun’s agency has repeatedly denied the allegations that he was dating her when she was a minor, insisting that their relationship only began after Kim Sae Ron became an adult and ended shortly afterwards. During the press conference in Seoul, Bu Ji Seok presented text messages allegedly exchanged between the two celebs in June 2016. According to him, these messages prove the two were romantically involved while she was still underage.

Some of the texts, as reported by Sports Chosun, show Kim Soo Hyun asking for hugs and kisses. In one exchange, he wrote: “When can I hold you and fall asleep? I think I’d be able to sleep really well then.”
Kim Sae Ron, who was 17 at the time, responded: “Yeah, I’ll let you do that.”
In another exchange, Kim Soo Hyun asked how long it would take before she allowed physical intimacy: “Will it take about a year?” He then suggested “three years” before settling on “six months.” Kim Sae Ron replied vaguely, saying, “I’ll do it when I want to. No promises.”
In one conversation, Kim Sae Ron informed Kim Soo Hyun that she was heading back to filming, to which he encouraged her to return soon and sent a heart emoji. She reciprocated with a heart and a kissing emoji, prompting him to ask if he’d be allowed to kiss her in person. She initially dismissed the idea before assuring him she would. In another exchange, Kim Sae Ron repeatedly asked if he missed her, expressing frustration when he dodged the question.

Kim Soo Hyun’s representatives have previously insisted that their relationship only began after Kim Sae Ron turned into an adult. However, with these messages now public, many are questioning that claim. Bu Ji Seok challenged Kim Soo Hyun’s stance, stating, “If this was not a romantic relationship, then what kind of relationship was it? I want to ask Kim Soo Hyun directly.”
Alongside the messages, the bereaved family also shared an unsent letter that Kim Sae Ron had written in 2024. In the letter, she described their relationship as having lasted “5-6 years” and called Kim Soo Hyun her “first love and last love.” She also seemed frustrated after being ignored by him. “Seeing you avoid me and not even acknowledging me makes me feel like all the time we spent together was meaningless,” Sae Ron wrote in the letter. During the press conference, Bu Ji Seok explained that Kim Sae Ron was unable to send the letter to the Queen of Tears star due to a legal notice from GOLD MEDALIST, Kim Soo Hyun’s agency.
In the letter, she addressed Kim Soo Hyun directly, expressing regret over a past incident where she uploaded a photo in an attempt to get her former agency’s attention. Kim Sae Ron was found dead at her home in February 2025. After her death, her family alleged that she and Kim Soo Hyun had been in a relationship since 2015, when she was just 15 years old.
