Missing the non-stop bickering between Sang Zhi and Sang Yan from Netflix’s hit C-drama Hidden Love? Zhao Lusi and Victor Ma recently reunited for the Mango TV and Hunan Satellite TV variety show titled Be Myself. The show premiered earlier this year, following Zhao’s journey as she explores different cultures, experiences rural life, and, in the process, begins to find herself again, recovering from the ‘depressive’ health episode that put her career on pause for a while. Last year, the Netflix breakout star shared a heartbreaking update after being spotted in a hospital wheelchair, later accusing her agency of physical and mental abuse, which allegedly triggered her sudden health decline.
The chaotic Sang sibling who kept viewers hooked with the second storyline of Hidden Love—just as much as the leading romance plot starring Zhao alongside Chen Zheyuan (Duan Jiaxu)—took a car ride into a rural setting in a new teaser video shared by the show’s official handle. And fans were quick to spot how their conversation here, too, felt like they were still stuck in that sibling bond, arguing back and forth with each other. At one point, Victor Ma even asks Zhao, pointing to the actor sitting in the backseat, “You said you guys met online,” a line he also kept bringing up in their C-drama.
They were later seen exploring traditional Chinese culture. When they return, Victor says, “She thinks I’m not normal in the head, she thinks I’m loud,” making everyone on set burst out laughing. Zhao interrupts, “I’ve been looking at you all day like this,” making an eye-rolling gesture, seemingly referring to their trip to the village and the interactions with the locals. So yeah, if you’re really missing the Hidden Love sibling energy, here’s your perfect weekend treat.
Be Myself premiered on March 27. The show invites various celebrities to join Zhao on her first independent journey. New episodes air every Thursday. And fans are looking forward to Chen Zheyuan joining the healing trip, as the actor prepares to make her comeback in the acting scene.
Earlier in the same series, Zhao admitted that she’s facing memory loss because of the harsh medications. The show, which offers a raw, unfiltered look at the actor’s health struggles, featured her in conversation with young actor Fu Bohan, who asks when she’s planning an acting comeback. She replies that since she has temporarily lost the ability to memorise, starring in any drama would be nearly impossible as she wouldn’t be able to remember her lines. “If you take the medicine, you won’t feel pain,” she explained, “but you can’t retain memory,” she said.
The Chinese actor made global headlines with her sudden health decline, which reportedly emerged from a deeper issue. On January 1, Zhao addressed the situation on Weibo, responding to serious allegations of abuse. She was also diagnosed with Dissociative Conversion Disorder, a condition that “disrupts her memory, movement, and overall awareness.”
