Emily in Paris season 5 is officially going on the floors. The Netflix romantic comedy, filled with high-profile fashion moments and brands parading one after another, left viewers reeling with anticipation over what’s next in Emily’s life as she moves to Italy with her new romance, Marcello, who also happens to be the heir to a luxury brand. Now, according to Variety, Darren Star’s show is set to kick off production in May in the city of Rome, with almost the entire cast returning, including Lily Collins, Lucas Bravo as Gabriel, Ashley Park as Mindy Chen, and more. Unfortunately, this instalment will be missing a familiar face—one who was at the core of the series and played a vital role in Gabriel and Emily’s lives.

While an official release date for Emily in Paris season 5 has not been revealed yet, the show is expected to premiere on Netflix later this year (probably in the fourth quarter). Season 4 left us on a cliffhanger when Sylvie, played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, handed Emily a major position in Italy to run Agence Grateau’s Italian office. Emily happily moves to start fresh with her new Italian love interest, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), and his cashmere company in the beautiful fictional village of Solitano.

While the show gave closure to Emily’s other ex-boyfriend, the handsome Brit Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), after he moved on with his new girlfriend, the final glimpse also teased that the romance with the sexy French chef, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), isn’t entirely off the table yet. One thing we’re sure of is that season 5 picks up right where season 4 left off—no time leaps have been introduced so far.

One Emily in Paris cast won’t return in season 5

According to the report, Camille Razat, who played Camille, Gabriel’s ex-girlfriend, won’t be reprising her role in season 5. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t have an antagonist in the new season. Season 4 also introduced Geneviève, who could be seen trying hard to grab Gabriel’s attention while Emily grows an inkling of dislike toward her. Since the character is introduced as the daughter of French director Luc Besson, she can’t be completely ignored. However, there are also reports that she has yet to sign the contract. Other than that, most of the cast members are returning, including Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park (Mindy Chen), Bravo, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, William Abadie, and Lucien Laviscount.

However, as the show progresses, not everyone is happy with their character’s growth, and Bravo is one of them. Speaking to Indiewire, the actor who plays the Michelin-starred chef said that his character on the show has “slowly turned into guacamole,” expressing frustration over the back-and-forth between his ex-girlfriend, Emily, and the constant confusion surrounding his storyline. “The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in Season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take. I’ve never been so far away from him,” Bravo said.
