When Chiranjeevi shared his dream of seeing Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor together on screen like him and Sridevi; it came true 7 years later
In an interview, Chiranjeevi shared his wish to see Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor remake his hit film Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, reprising the roles he and Sridevi played, respectively.

Ram Charan has transcended his identity as merely Chiranjeevi’s son or another scion of the affluent Konidela family. The RRR actor has risen to global stardom, boasting fans worldwide. What’s truly remarkable is that he achieved this stature with just 14 movies.
Born 39 years ago today, Charan is the only son of Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi and his wife Surekha. He is also the nephew of actor-producer Nagendra Babu and “Power Star” Pawan Kalyan. Following in his family members’ footsteps, Charan entered cinema in 2007, debuting as the lead in Puri Jagannadh’s actioner Chirutha.
Chiranjeevi, a stalwart in the industry for 46 years, has collaborated with nearly all top-tier actors, firmly establishing his legacy. Recently, a video resurfaced online featuring Chiranjeevi discussing his dream regarding Ram Charan, which has since gone viral after the dream materialised.
In the 2017 video, Nagendra Babu’s daughter Niharika can be seen hosting a rapid-fire round with both Chiranjeevi and Charan. When posed with the question, “What is one film of your father’s that you would love to remake?”, Charan promptly replied Gang Leader (1991).
Before Niharika moved on to the next question, Chiranjeevi said, “Can I say which film of mine I want Charan to remake? Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (1990).” When Niharika asked whom he would pick as the heroine opposite Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi replied, “Sridevi has a daughter, no?”, referring to Sridevi’s eldest daughter Janhvi Kapoor.
Helmed by K Raghavendra Rao, the 1990 fantasy film starred Chiranjeevi and Sridevi in the lead roles and also featured Amrish Puri, Kannada Prabhakar, Allu Ramalingaiah and Rami Reddy in key roles. It had emerged as the highest-grossing Telugu film of that time.
Now, seven years post the interview, Chiranjeevi’s wish has come true as Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor are finally getting ready to share the screen for the first time. Tentatively titled RC16, the film’s mahurat puja ceremony was held on March 20, with Chiranjeevi himself and Charan’s wife Upasana Konidela in attendance. Helmed by Uppena director Buchi Bachu Sana, RC16’s music will be composed by AR Rahman.
Ever since initial reports regarding the project surfaced, fans have been ecstatically sharing the interview video on social media platforms as Chiranjeevi’s dream becomes a reality.
Meanwhile, Ram Charan is currently gearing up for the release of S Shankar’s Game Changer, which will hit the screens later this year.
