Upasana Konidela, heir to Rs 77,000 cr Apollo empire, says she is ‘khaas’ not because of inheritance or marriage to Ram Charan, but for rising through ‘pressure and pain’

Upasana Konidela further expressed how women are often expected to see themselves as ‘Aam Aadmi’. “We’re told to stay humble, play safe, and wait our turn. Praised for being selfless, but rarely encouraged to dream big or prioritise personal growth,” she wrote.

Talking about how self-sacrifice is glorified for women but how self-care is the true need of the hour in India, Upasana wrote, “I didn’t become khaas because of what I inherited or who I married. I became khaas because I faced pressure and pain – and chose to rise anyway. I’ve doubted myself, I’ve fallen, I’ve started over. I kept choosing belief. Again. And again.”

The star wife ended her note by questioning what it really means to be khaas. She added, “It has nothing to do with money, status, or fame. It begins with self-worth – and is powered by gratitude, kindness and courage. This isn’t about ego. Ego demands recognition. Self-worth quietly creates it.”

Who is Upasana Konidela?

Upasana is the vice-chairperson of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Apollo Hospitals, which was founded by her grandfather and chairman, Dr Prathap C Reddy. She recently appeared in a vlog by influencer Kamiya Jani where the business empire’s worth was put at Rs 77,000 crore. Upasana is also the Managing Director of Family Health Plan Insurance TPA (FHPL) and is the founder of a holistic wellness platform, called UR Life.

Upasana and Ram Charan tied the knot in 2012, and the couple welcomed their daughter Klin Kaara in 2023.
