In December, two major Hindi films, Sam Bahadur and Animal, are set to clash at the box office early in the month. Closing the month will be a monumental face-off between Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar on December 22. Recently, Prashanth Neel, the writer and director of Salaar, addressed his film’s clash with Dunki.

Neel, in an interview with The Times Of India, expressed that no filmmaker desires a clash, whether it’s with a newcomer’s film or with a veteran like Shah Rukh Khan. “But it is a very unpleasant situation for anybody to move their date to somebody else’s date,” he said. The director also added that he didn’t want somebody else to move to their film’s date when they had announced their release date a year ago. He highlighted that their film’s release date was determined by the production team without his involvement in the decision-making process.

While Prashanth admitted not fearing the clash with Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki, he stressed that every filmmaker’s primary concern is whether the audience will like their work. The director also expressed admiration for Hirani as one of his favourite filmmakers and stated his intention to watch Dunki in theaters. He said, “So I do understand that that’s a very big movie that is coming out.”

Earlier, Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, who plays a significant role in Salaar, spoke about the Salaar vs Dunki clash. He told Hindustan Times, “The fact that we are releasing with Hirani sir and Shah Rukh sir’s film, leave everything else, as a film lover I love it! I am excited that during the holiday season, you have two giant films, by two giant filmmakers, starring two big stars, and diametrically opposite in every possible parameter like the story and narrative.”

“I am going to be watching both, I can promise you that. I am so looking forward to it. When did this last happen, that over a holiday season, we had two such big films? What better year than 2023 to celebrate Indian cinema like this,” he added.
