It appears that the Samantha Ruth Prabhu-The Liver Doc episode is snowballing into a major controversy, with even eminent personalities weighing in on the matter and sharing their two cents on it. Now, three-time Grammy Award-winning composer Ricky Kej, of Indian descent, has entered the chat, supporting The Liver Doc’s statement, while condemning his choice of words. Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan has come out in her support.

It all started when Samantha endorsed on her podcast, Take 20, nebulising hydrogen peroxide and distilled water as an alternative treatment for viral infections. Calling her “health and science illiterate,” medical influencer Cyriac Abby Philips aka The Liver Doc noted on X (formerly Twitter) that she could’ve been jailed for making such claims in a “rational and progressive society.”

Earlier today, Samantha issued a lengthy statement responding to the doctor’s remarks. Mentioning that she landed on treatments that “worked wonderfully” for her after lots of “trial and error,” the Kushi actor mentioned that this treatment was suggested by a medical professional with over 25 years’ experience, who “chose to advocate alternative therapy” after leaving behind his education in “conventional medicine”. She, however, also said that she will be ‘more careful’ about medical advices henceforth. Many celebrities, including Rhea Chakraborty and Manchu Lakshmi, had assembled in the post’s comment section, expressing their support and love for their colleague.

Addressing Samantha in the comment section, Kej wrote, “Get well soon! You have gone through a lot, and deserve to be well. About medical advice, it would be best not shared by non-medical professionals especially celebs with influence, More-so since you also endorse processed foods for pets, and sugary unhealthy foods. While we understand that this is done for the money, It is natural that there will be suspicion about everything that you praise.”

“So the Doctor who attacked you (I cannot see his comments) may have been rude, but he was not completely wrong. One cannot play with people’s lives with advice, which is half-baked. Especially people with huge influence. It is not the responsibility of the said Doctor to get in touch with yours. He will rightly respond to you, since you are the one advocating the treatment,” he added.

After Samantha issued the statement, The Liver Doc had lashed out at her for the “endorsement of unscientific, pseudoscientific and baseless alternative medicine therapies by playing the victim card and endorsing more alternative practices.” “She is a serial offender in the context of healthcare misinformation and she has been in the line of fire previously too,” he added.

Varun, who is working with Samantha on a Citadel offshoot, meanwhile, shared a heart icon on his response while actor Rhea Chakraborty wrote, “Potatoes gonna potate”.
